Over 40 admissions of children into care locally during a one year period

There were over 40 admissions of children into state care in the Northern Sound region during a recent one-year period.

Details released by Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, show that 42 children were taken into care in Cavan and Monaghan in 2015.

Twenty of these were said to be neglected, while three were emotionally abused and eight were physically abused.

A further 20 children were placed into foster care due to welfare issues.

Across the Northern Sound region in 2015, no children were admitted to care as a result of sexual abuse.
