Blacklion councillor attributes vacant property rate to poor infrastructure

‘Without improvements to infrastructure such as broadband, people won’t move to rural areas like Blacklion.’

That’s according to local Fianna Fail councillor John Paul Feeley in response to figures yesterday which showed the settlement in County Cavan to have the highest rate of vacant properties in Ireland.

According to census figures, the vacancy rate in the settlement of Blacklion was around 40 percent (46.40 percent) in April 2016 with almost half of all homes sitting empty.

Also in County Cavan, Swanlinbar has the fifth highest vacancy rate in Ireland with 37.8 percent of properties sitting empty.
