Cavan businessman Sean Gallagher is the ambassador for this year’s ‘Cycle of Light’ fundraiser in aid of the National Council for the Blind.
The event, which takes place later this month, will see 100 people cycle into the darkness of night for sight loss. The 85km cycle from Dalkey to Howth and back, aims to shine a light for those living with sight loss, and raise funds for the NCBI’s rehabilitation and children services.
According to Census 2011, there are 650 people in Monaghan with sight loss, and another 729 in Cavan. Ambassador for this year’s cycle, Sean Gallagher, has had his own experience of sight difficulties, having been born with congenital cataracts.
Collette McEntee from Monaghan is the Fundraising Executive with the NCBI. With the registration deadline for the ‘Cycle for Light’ fundraiser fast approaching, she’s encouraging sighted people to offer their services on a tandem bike.
The Cycle for Light takes place on Friday August 25th, and registration closes on August 21st.
