Census results show 11% of population locally are non-national

Around 11% of people living in Cavan and Monaghan are non-nationals.  That’s according to the latest CSO census figures.

 

There’s been a slight decline in the number of non-nationals living in County Monaghan.  Currently there are around 6,700 non-nationals living in the county. That’s a drop of 1.4% on Census 2011’s figure.

The five EU countries Lithuania, the UK, Poland, Lativa and Romania, accounted for the majority of Monaghan’s non-national population.

In County Cavan, there’s been an increase in the number of non-nationals living in the county.  Currently there are around 8,800 non-nationals living in the county. That’s an increase of almost 5% on 2011’s census figure.

Ballyjamesduff has the fourth highest non-national population in the country, with 30% of residents hailing from another country.

In County Cavan, the majority of non-nationals were either Polish or from the UK.
