Today the Minister for Communications met with groups from Cavan, Monaghan and Meath to hear their views on Eirgrid's North South Interconnector.
It's the first time a Communications Minister has done that since the project came to light 10 years ago.
But was it just a box ticking exercise for the Minister? Was he really listening to the concerns of the communities affected?
Fianna Fáil Deputy Niamh Smyth says while the Minister didn't give any commitments today, he did listen to their concerns.
However Nigel Hillis of the County Monaghan Anti Pylon Committee was less optimistic about today's meeting.
He says it doesn't look like they convinced the Minister to direct Eirgrid to underground the project.
