Commuting long distances each working day can have a huge impact on family life.
That’s the view of Cavan mother Elaine whose husband travels to from Cavan to Dundalk each day for work.
The Census 2016 results show commuting times rose in every county – but Cavan saw the biggest increase to their commute – up 8.8% since 2011.
In Monaghan it’s a similar story, as 73% of people travel to work by car.
A third of commuters in Monaghan travel less than 15 minutes to work, while nearly 10% of commuters travel more than an hour, and 4% travel over 90 minutes.
Elaine spoke on today’s Joe Finnegan Show, she explained how difficult it can be for her family due to her husband’s commute.
