Drop in amount of driving offences recorded locally this year

There’s been a significant drop in the amount of driving offences recorded locally this year.

In the Monaghan Policing District, there was a significant drop in speeding incidents which fell by 81 to 40 and in dangerous driving incidents which fell by 11 to 13.

Meanwhile, in Carrickmacross there was a drop of 32 in speeding offences to 20 and dangerous driving offences dropped by 8 to 23.

In both areas there was a drop in drink driving offences with a decrease of 9 in Carrickmacross to 27 and a drop of 6 in Monaghan to 25.

Superintendent Noel Cunningham has attributed the change in figures to a greater focus on policing the N2 following recent fatal accidents.
