Statement of resignation of Cavan Senior & U21 ladies football manger
Regrettably, I will not be continuing in my role as the Cavan senior ladies football team manager with immediate effect. The level of ambition, work rate and sacrifice that the players and management team make is not being matched at county board level. Basic player welfare, fundraising, sponsorship, strategic planning, fixtures and everything that can be done to achieve success on the pitch is not being put in place off the pitch.
The past 2 years have been some of the most enjoyable time I’ve had in football. To be given the opportunity to manage your own county in your very first senior Intercounty job is a dream come true and truly humbling. It has been a hugely proud moment for myself and my family and I’m very grateful to have been given such an opportunity and that such faith was placed in me.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank both Carol Kiernan & Martin Brady as chairpersons for their belief and support over the past 2 years. I would like to further thank all who have supported the senior team in any way, those involved in the media who promoted the team & to everyone who supported us at games.
I will not forget the great memories that we have had along the way. The unbeaten run in the NFL, winning an All-Ireland U21 title, the first win in Ulster at senior level, beating the reigning Ulster champions and getting to a first ever Ulster senior final, which was played ahead of the Cavan Tyrone senior mens replay was very special. I would like to thank everyone involved in making that happen & those in the Cavan mens board who have been so good to us over the past 2 years.
I especially want to thank everyone who has been part of my management teams and who gave so much time and commitment for the players and team. The level of commitment and effort given was truly impressive and the players have improved hugely and appreciated it. You have become very close and valued friends.
Finally I would like to thank the players themselves, for the belief and effort they have shown over the past 2 years. It’s not easy giving such commitment and in the long dark nights of winter with players travelling great distances and making sacrifices for the greater good of the team. At half time in the All Ireland quarter final and a point down to Cork the All Ireland champions I saw the belief the players had in themselves. I only hope that you can build on the last 2 years hard work and push on to achieve even greater things in the future. I wish you all the very best of luck in the future.
Conor Barry
