There may be significant risks in drinking water from your own private well.
That's the advice from a group of public health professionals including HSE's public health medical officers, surveillance scientists, environmental health officers, Department of Agriculture and local authority veterinarians.
These risks are to the health and well-being of the people drinking this water, but particularly young children and people with weakened immune systems.
Dr Peter Finnegan who is a specialist in Public Health Medicine at the HSE Department of Public Health joined Caroline Gauley on The Wider View.
He started by explaining the issues with drinking well water:
