A Junior Minister says it’s “highly likely” that refugees will be housing in Cavan and Monaghan in the coming months.
David Stanton says refugees will be resettled across the country in the next 18 months and “at some point over that period it is highly likely” that Cavan and Monaghan will house a proportion.
There was criticism of news that Syrian refugees are to be housed in the Roscommon town of Ballaghdereen, as the Local Authority says it wasn’t consulted about the decision.
Junior Minister Stanton says funding and the appropriate structures will be put in place prior to any refugees being housed locally.
