Ireland’s accommodation of refugees and asylum seekers called into question

A former election candidate and local garda whistleblower has called into the question Ireland’s accommodation of refugees and asylum seekers from Syria and the Middle East.

Speaking to Northern Sound today, John Wilson said taking in “20,000 Muslim refugees is not the same as taking in 20,000 Christian refugees”.

He was speaking after the Department of Justice announced it was to accommodate refugees in the Roscommon town of Ballaghaderreen.

Locals there this week hosted a meeting on the matter and have decided to hold a number of “Welcome to Roscommon” events when the Syrian people arrive.
