Irish companies trading with UK warned to prepare for hard Brexit

Irish companies working with Britain need to plan for a hard Brexit – according to the head of Enterprise Ireland.

It comes as the Jobs Minister says there needs to be more business done with EU states other than the UK.

In the papers this morning EU Commissioner Phil Hogan suggested Ireland should move more towards trade with other EU countries during the Brexit talks.

Jobs Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor said that would be the case, but that the government will be trying to keep Britain close too.

It comes as Enterprise Ireland announced it supported the creation of – 19,000 new jobs last year – or 9,000 net jobs once job losses are taken into account.

The head of Enterprise Ireland Julie Sinnamon said companies need to be preparing for a hard Brexit.

It comes as different countries are positioning themselves ahead of the UK’s exit from the European Union.
