There’s been a cautious welcome to news that the Department of Rural Development is to fund the Local Improvement Scheme in 2017.
The programme provides funding for the upgrading of non-county roads and is being reintroduced for the first time since 2011.
However, there’s criticism of the news, with councils having less than two weeks to respond to the Department.
The announcement is being welcomed by local Fianna Fáil Senator Robbie Gallagher and Councillor John Paul Feeley.
