A local MEP’s embarking on a week long visit to the USA as part of a fact finding mission by the European Parliament’s Panama Papers inquiry.
Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy will travel to Washington DC and the state of Delaware along with eight other MEPs, to meet with US government officials from Treasury and the IRS.
The Panama Papers investigation is the largest ever release of information about offshore companies and the people behind them.
The inquiry decided to undertake fact finding missions to Luxembourg, Malta, Britain and the USA as part of the inquiry.
MEP Carthy says that he looks forward to meeting with US officials in order to develop a strong and coordinated global approach to dealing with the problems of tax avoidance, tax evasion and money laundering.
