Local Priest facing retrial on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting a woman

A local Priest will face a retrial later this year, on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting a woman when she was a teenager in the 1990s and again in the early 2000s.

The defendant, who had pleaded not guilty, cannot be named for legal reasons.

The alleged incidents were said to have taken place at the defendant’s home and the home of his alleged victim.

He stood trial locally earlier this year but the jury failed to reach a verdict and Judge Martin Nolan declared a mistrial.

The Priest, from the Diocese of Kilmore, will appear in Cavan Circuit Court in November.
