Local Senator says Unionism would benefit from a soft border

A local Senator says he believes a united Ireland would be more likely if there’s a hard border after Brexit.

The DUP is blocking any agreement that would see regulatory alignment between Northern Ireland and the Republic, with concerns it would effectively cut the North off from the rest of the UK.

Fine Gaels’ Joe O’Reilly told the Seanad that the Government isn’t trying to undermine Northern Ireland and that any decision on its future lies with the people of the region. And he said a soft border is in the interest of Unionists:
