A local TD has serious concerns about how the health system will cope as winter approaches.
Fianna Fáil’s Brendan Smith has criticised the Government’s handling of the HSE, as new figures show over 13,000 bed days were lost due to delayed discharges in local hospitals in the first half of the year. The HSE figures show delays in discharging patients to step down care are having a serious impact on the number beds available in local hospitals.
Brendan Smith says we need more step down care units before winter, which is typically a very busy time for emergency departments. He says the Government needs to respond to the demand for step down care.
