‘A lot of children don’t realise that they’re in a caring role.’ That’s according to 14 year old Sean Collins from Smithborough in County Monaghan who cares for his intellectually disabled sister Catherine.

New census figures showed that across Ireland there are almost 4,000 children under the age of 15 engaged in providing unpaid care for others. 72 carers aged 14 and under were identified in Cavan while 63 were identified in Monaghan.
