Monaghan Council to again call for undergrounding of proposed Interconnector

Monaghan County Council has unanimously agreed to pursue the undergrounding of the North-South Interconnector.

The council held a special meeting today to discuss the decision of An Bord Pleanala who approved the project before Christmas.

Council members will ask all Cavan-Monaghan and Meath Oireachtas members, local council members and political parties in the North to rally to make the undergrounding of the interconnector Government policy.

Along with this, the council also passed a motion to find out how much Eirgird has spent on the interconnector project.

It’s planning on constructing hundreds of pylons across Cavan, Monaghan, Meath and Tyrone to connect the two electricity grids on the island.

The North East Pylon Pressure Committee is holding a public meeting later this month to discuss its future campaign.

Cathaoirleach PJ O’Hanlon says the elected representatives are trying to underground Eirgrid’s Interconnector through political means – as the legal route may not be successful.
