National media must bear some responsibility for people ignoring weather warning

National media outlets have to bear some of the responsibility for people ignoring weather warnings during Storm Ophelia, according to a local Councillor.

The majority of people took the red weather warning seriously, but a number of people entered the water in Salthill in Galway during the severe storm on Monday which left three people dead nationally.

Councillor Paudge Connolly believes RTE’s Theresa Mannion’s dramatic Storm Desmond weather report in 2015 has encouraged others to seeks their ‘fifteen minutes of fame’.
