Loreto College Cavan is the top school for university progression in the three Ulster border counties according to a survey published in The Sunday Times yesterday.
In the guide to the top 400 secondary schools in the country, the girls school in Cavan which has 688 students, ranked 54th overall in Ireland and saw an average of nearly 65% of its students progress to university in September 2008 and 2009.
It is followed by boys’ school St Macartan’s College in Monaghan which was ranked 60th overall.
The Royal School Cavan also came very high in the survey and was ranked at 83rd which makes it the top fee-paying school in the three border counties
Speaking to Northern Sound news Principal of St Macartans in Monaghan says a lot goes into achieving such high standards.
