Cavan County Council calls for undergrounding of major powerline « Go Back
Mar 09 2010

Cavan County Council is hopeful that An Bord Pleanala will take the views of local authorities and residents into consideration before making a decision on the North-South Interconnector.

Eirgrid wants to run a 440KV electricity power line and required pylons from Tyrone to Meath via Cavan and Monaghan.

The semi-state company argues that the technology to underground the line is not available, that health fears over emissions have not been proven conclusively and says landowners will be compensated for possible land acquisitions or devaluation.

However, these assurances have not satisfied local people or their public representatives.

Cavan County Council revealed the contents of its submission to the national planning authority yesterday – calling for the plans to be rejected in their current form.

Fine Gael Councillor David Blake hopes that it will make a difference to the outcome
