The Irish Farmers Association is welcoming the proposal by Glanbia Co-op to purchase the Irish business of Glanbia Plc.
The farming organisation says it's a welcome development which holds out the prospect of outright farmer ownership of Ireland's largest milk pool.
It's also understood it will lead to much greater direct farmer control of the Irish dairy industry, facilitating greater consolidation and cost efficiency.
The IFA President John Bryan says he and the Dairy Chairman Kevin Kiersey will be meeting with Glanbia tomorrow to review the details of the negotiations and their implications for farmers both within Glanbia and across the country.
