The fate of the Garage Theatre in Monaghan vastly depends on its survival this year.
That’s according to the Chairman of County Monaghan VEC, Owen Bannigan.
It follows concern for its future after funding for the theatre was withdrawn by the Arts Council.
However, after what’s been described as a positive meeting with Val Ballans of the Arts Council, Councillor Bannigan believes if the theatre can remain open until December – then funding for 2011 will be secured.
Furthermore, €2 million could be then obtained towards developing a new site for the facility.
The theatre’s board of management is gathering this Friday to review a financial plan which aims to keep its doors open for the remainder of the year.
