The farming group MACRA says the biggest issue among farmers is that of land mobility. They group say very little land is moving at the minute – making it difficult for younger people hoping to acquire land to start up a career in agriculture.
While the group say they don’t want to push older people off land – other options must be explored allowing younger farmers the chance to get started. MACRA is holding a meeting at Ballyhaise Agriculture College at 8pm this evening – to discuss this issue and also CAP plans. Sean Coughlan is chairman of MACRA’s Agricultural Affairs Committee.
