As and from today there will be a new €100 charge for people attending the minor injuries unit at Monaghan General Hospital according to a Monaghan Councillor.
Robbie Gallagher got confirmation of the new charge at yesterday’s meeting of the Regional Health Forum.
However Councillor Gallagher says it will not apply to those with a GP referral or a medical card:
The Health (Out-Patient Charges) Regulations 2013 provide that a statutory charge of 100 Euro will apply in relation to each episode of care of services provided at
-an emergency department
-an accident and emergency department or a casualty department
– a minor injury unit
-an urgent care centre
– a local injury unit, or
– any other facility providing similar services
The regulations will take effect on 1st March 2013.
Cavan Monaghan Hospital Group is aware of this legislative change and is currently reviewing it in relation to the Minor Injury Unit in Monaghan Hospital.
