A crucial part of the N3 Belturbet bypass has opened. The stretch of road will remove heavy traffic from the streets of Belturbet ahead of a major festival this weekend, while also accommodating large crowds travelling to Croke Park.
Construction works have now ended at the River Erne Bridge, and this afternoon, a 70% section of the N3 Belturbet bypass between Staghall Roundabout and Drumalure was opened. This crucial part of the road will remove heavy N3 traffic from the streets of Belturbet in time for the Festival of the Erne which is happening this Bank Holiday weekend.
It will also accommodate large crowds travelling from West Cavan and Donegal to Croke Park this Sunday. Cavan County Council is advising all road users to be mindful of the new junction layouts – and to drive carefully on approach to the Aghnaguig Bog Bridge site /Annagh Lake area where traffic management remains. The public and landowners are being thanked for their cooperation during the delivery of this scheme.
Director of Services at Cavan Co Council Joe McLoughlin explains the route which opened today.
And he says by 2014 the entire route should be fully open.
