« BackSenator wants clarity on horsemeat crisis

seanad2A Labour party representative says consumers need to hear from meat producers on the horsemeat controversy – as she says they’ve been “too quiet” on the issue.

Seanad spokesperson on Agriculture Susan O’Keeffe says the scandal has become somewhat of a “joke” – but in reality, the sector is hugely important, as is our international reputation.

She says clarity is needed – as there’s much confusion amongst the public about what is safe to eat; whether any prosecutions have been made and what relations are now like between Ireland and our main trading partner – the UK.

Speaking on News90, she says the public have very much been “kept in the dark” over the last two months.
