It’s hoped that a new plan for Cavan and Monaghan will reduce the rate of suicide locally. The HSE’s Suicide Prevention Action Plan was launched this morning in Cavan – it’s a multi-agency approach to reducing suicide in the two counties.
Figures show that Cavan and Monaghan have particularly high rates of suicide when compared to the national average. The action plan involves 62 actions – including awareness campaigns of how people can look after their mental health.
It also gives people the training and skills to talk to people about mental health. Emer Mulligan is HSE Officer for Suicide Prevention in Cavan and Monaghan – she says some people are more at risk of suicide than others.
