Plaque unveiled to remember Garda Michael Clerkin

A plaque has been unveiled in County Monaghan to commemorate local Garda Michael Clerkin.

Garda Clerkin – a native of Monaghan town – was fatally injured in the line of duty in a Provisional IRA ambush in Co Laois in 1976.

In 2017 he was posthumously awarded a Scott Medal for Bravery.

The plaque is located on Mill Street in Monaghan Town, beside the Monaghan County Museum.
