Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is warning that a physical border of any kind between the north and south of Ireland in the wake of Brexit could be very dangerous for the peace process.
Bertie Ahern was Taoiseach when the Good Friday Agreement was signed in 1998 and is of the opinion that any kind of a physical border will not sit well with the nationalist communities.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Bertie Ahern also warned that Ireland can't allow itself to be treated like just another EU member state when the negotiations begin, and must demand special consideration for the sectors like agriculture and food which he feels will be hardest hit.
