Record numbers expected for Darkness into Light runs in Cavan/Monaghan

Around 5,000 people in Cavan and Monaghan are expected to take part in tomorrow morning’s Darkness into Light run.

The Darkness into Light runs have been running in the local region for the last 6 years, and numbers taking part have being growing every year.

The 5K walk as 4.15am is the main fundraising event organised by the suicide and self-harm prevention and treatment centre – Pieta House.

Around 2,000 people are expected to take part in the 5km run in Monaghan, while Cavan’s expecting 3,000 to turn out.

Registration & t-shirt collection areas will be open from 2.30am, however, with the large number of people already registered, t-shirts cannot be guaranteed for people arriving late.

In Cavan the run will begin from Cavan Institute on the Cathedral road, and in Monaghan it’ll start from Monaghan Harps G.A.A complex.

Recently Pieta House announced that plans are in the pipeline to deliver a Pieta House centre in the Cavan Monaghan region.

Sean Mc Kenna, who is one of the organisers of the Monaghan run, says that’s what they’ve been working towards over the last number of years.
