Revisiting Cavan’s Quarter final win

Cavan take on Kerry in the All Ireland Minor football Semi-Final on Sunday in Croke Park to reach that stage they defeated Galway in the All Ireland quarter final in Pairc Sean in Carrick on Shannon on the 5th of August.

Quarter final match report:

The Cavan minors have reached the All Ireland Minor semi final for the first time in 43 years. An Oisin Pierson goal goal gave them a 1-11 to 0-11 victory in a tense game in Pairc Sean MacDhiarmada in Carrick on Shannon on the 5th of August.

The Breffini County went into the match having lost the Ulster final to Derry by 1-22 to 2-12 While Galway beat Sligo 3-10 to 0-10 in the Connacht final. There were three changes from the Cavan team which lined out the Ulster final as John Cooke, Philip Nulty, Ruairi Curran and Tiarnan Reilly come into the starting team.

Galway got off the mark first and went 0-03 to no score up ahead after 12 minutes thanks to points from Padraic Costello, Darragh Silke and Mathias Barrett. Oisin Piersen and Tiarnan Reilly opened the scoring for Cavan over the next three minutes to leave just a point between them but Conor Campbell returned Galway to the scoreboard and six minutes later that was cancelled out by a point from Ruari Curran. With two minutes to go in the half wing forward Curran struck again  for Cavan. Philip Rogers then put them level for the first time since the opening score on the 30th minute. Galway though went into the break a point ahead due to a Padraic Costello free in the 33rd minute. Galway 0-06 Cavan 0-05.

Galway had a great start to second half making it 0-09 to 0-05 with three points in a row.  Cian Madden got Cavans first point of the half which was followed by a Galway point. Cavan then got three points in a row through Madden and two from Pierson. Silke put Galway two points ahead but then came the turning point of the match with an Oisin Pierson goal. Madden then got the two final points of the half and held on for a three point win for John Bradys side.

Kerry going for a four in a row defeated Louth by 1-22 to 2-09 and they’ll play Cavan in the semi final in Croke Park.
