Rural TDs raise concerns over proposed drop in drink driving limit

There’s concern among rural TDs over a proposed lowering of the drink driving limit.

Transport Minister Shane Ross said last week that he was looking into dropping the limit to less than half the current level and implementing a “name and shame” policy for those convicted of drink driving.

It was reported over the weekend that several TDs want an increase in Garda numbers, rather than a cut in the limit.

Minister Ross says it’s in a bid to reduce the number of people killed on our roads, with 187 people killed on the country’s roads last year.

14 people were killed across Cavan and Monaghan in 2016, with one killed so far this year.
