Sale of the Cavan’s Anglo Celt newspaper to INM won’t be decided for another 80 days

The sale of the Cavan’s Anglo Celt newspaper to Denis O’Brien’s Independent News and Media, won’t be decided for another 80 days.

The Minister for Communications Denis Naughten was to make a decision on Tuesday of this week on the proposed sale, after it was approved by the Competition Commissioner in November.

However the Minister has decided to refer the proposed acquisition to a Phase 2 assessment.

This assessment will be undertaken by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, who will provide a report and recommendation to the Minister within 80 days.

Under the guidelines, the BAI must invite public submissions on the proposed merger.
