Senator says Defence Forces hasn’t the ability to deal with emergencies in Cavan and Monaghan

The Minister for Defence has been accused of misleading the public about the Defence Forces’ ability to help during an emergency in Cavan and Monaghan.

Gerard Craughwell says the recent emergency declared with the arrival of Storm Ophelia has highlighted a lack of resources and training.

He says there’s only one full engineering unit in the country, based in Cork, with partial units in Dublin and Athlone.
