Sinn Féin will today choose its candidate for the Presidency, but an outgoing local TD definitely won’t be it.
Caoimhghín Ó’Caoláin ruled himself out again this week after the North-West Cúige of the party nominated him for the job.
Speaking to Northern Sound News this week he said he was humbled by the nomination but was looking forward to retiring from public life.
Munster MEP Liada Ní Ríada is to receive the party’s nomination later today.
She’ll join an already crowded field, with Seán Gallagher, Gavin Duffy, Joan Freeman and incumbent Michael D Higgins already on the ballot.
The party’s Ard Chomhairle will meet today to name a candidate.
