Cavan/Monaghan TD Brendan Smith has appealed for more gardaí for the division.
It comes following Tuesday’s Budget, when it was announced that funding will be provided for the recruitment of 800 Garda recruits.
Fianna Fáil deputy Smith says since 2010, the Garda force in Cavan/Monaghan had been reduced by almost 20 per cent, despite the additional policing difficulties that arise near a border.
There are around 320 gardaí currently stationed in the region, but Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan failed to give any commitment that the division would see an increase.
