This Saturday, the Monaghan Senior Hurlers will hope to make up for the disappointment of losing last year’s Allianz National Hurling League Division 3A Final to Tyrone, as they are once again back in the decider where they will face reigning Nicky Rackard Cup Champions Roscommon. The game will take place on Saturday in Ballyshannon and will throw-in at 4pm. Roscommon won all five games in the divisional series while Monaghan won three of five, losing to Roscommon and Tyrone. Roscommon beat Monaghan by 1-12 to 0-10 in their Round 2 clash in Athleague .
I spoke with the Monaghan manager Trevor Hilliard and I put it to Trevor that after losing their opening two matches, most people had written off their chances of making this year’s decider.
Now Let’s get the Roscommon angle. Roscommon missed out on a place in the league final last year after being edged out by eventual champions Tyrone by a single point, and although Roscommon went onto win the All Ireland Nicky Rackard Championship, the Roscommon manager Justin Campbell acknowledged that it is great to be in the league final especially after last year’s agonisingly late semi-final loss to Tyrone.
