Treatment of Garda whistleblowers described as “the biggest scandal” in the history of the Irish state

The treatment of Garda whistleblowers has been described as “the biggest scandal” in the history of the Irish state.

That’s the view of local garda whistleblower John Wilson after the Dáil signed off on the terms of reference for a new Tribunal.

The expanded Tribunal will look at the handling of the Tusla file on Maurice McCabe, and whether it was used by Gardaí to smear him.

It will also look into the treatment of whistleblower Keith Harrison.

Tánaiste and Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has promised to sign the necessary paperwork to get the Tribunal up and running as soon as possible.

John Wilson spoke on today’s Joe Finnegan Show, he believes the findings of the expanded Tribunal will be a defining moment for the country and the way the Gardaí operate.
