Two year wait for cataract surgery in Cavan and Monaghan

People in Cavan and Monaghan are waiting up to two years for cataract surgery.

The figures from the Association of Optometrists also show children under 12 are waiting up to five months for surgery – one of the shortest timeframes in the country.

But the organisation has raised concerns about a screening programme for sixth class students being stopped, with no alternative being put in place.

Cavan and Monaghan have a below average wait for cataract surgery at 24 months, with west Cork having the longest wait at 60 months or five years.
