19 children have been assessed as needing emergency accommodation in Cavan so far this year.

In addition to this 27 adults were also registered as homeless and in need of the same accommodation.

Cavan County Council have told Northern Sound News that they have two beds available at Dundalk Simon Hostel which cost the council €70 weekly when an individual stays, usually for a 28 day period.

Other means of housing those registered as homeless in the county include B&B stays, where costs vary depending on availability, with an average single room approximately €58 per night and an average family room around €109 per night.

The Average length of stay for an individual or family in a B&B is generally 15 days.

In Monaghan the homeless figures released for October of this year only, show that two families both with 2 adults and 6 children each are registered as homeless, as well as 8 single adults.
