The Castleblayney man was elected to the party’s national executive last year, after first joining the party in 2017.
The 21 year old is so far the youngest candidate in the country.
The Green Party ran two candidates in Monaghan at last year’s local elections but both missed out on winning seats.
In 2016, Micheál Callaghan ran for the party, garnering just over 1,200 first preference votes.
He had been selected to run in the next election but said he decided to withdraw his candidacy couldn’t give it the time it deserves.
Twelve candidates have announced their intention to run in Cavan-Monaghan next month, with five seats to be filled.
