26% of parents in the region facing debt over school costs

26% of parents in the region get themselves into debt while preparing to send their children back to school.

The figures come as it was announced that 77% of parents are struggling with the cost, with a third of parents being forced to deny their children certain school items because they can’t afford it.

The average cost of sending a secondary school student back to school is €1,400, while the average is €949 for a primary school student.

A quarter of parents are also being forced to go to moneylenders to fund their child’s return to school.
