Over 50% of the public have admitted that they have knowingly wasted water, while 25% of people don’t believe they need to conserve water because of the level of rainfall in Ireland.
Irish Water is launching a water conservation campaign in order to encourage the public to only use the amount of water that they need.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Anthony Skeffington Regional Lead O&M Engineer at Irish Water said that there are both environmental and economic costs to water wastage.
He stated that if we reduce the amount of water we use, we will be able to safeguard rivers and lakes, as well as reducing the cost of treating water.
The engineer said they are not asking people to make drastic changes:
