Agricultural land prices drop in Monaghan but on the rise in Cavan

Agricultural land prices fell by 10% in Monaghan last year while there was a rise of 2% in Cavan.

Average agricultural land prices have risen by 3.6% nationally last year to €9,088 per acre, up from over €8,700 per acre in 2016. That’s according to the 2017 Irish Farmers Journal Land Price Report.

The average price of land in County Cavan has risen to €6,817 per acre last year – up from €6,681 per acre in 2016. Among the land sold at auction was a 27-acre farm near Shercock which made €260,000 or €9,630/acre.

Meanwhile in County Monaghan, the average price of land went from €10,543 per acre in 2016 to €9,467 per acre in 2017, representing a 10% decrease. A total of 42 farms were offered for sale in the county incorporating 1,400 acres.
