Close to 5,000 warrants were issued in Cavan and Monaghan over the last five years for the collection of debts owed to the Revenue Commissioners.
The figures were revealed by the Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe who says that Sherriffs only seize goods in a small number of cases.
He says before any seizure occurs, Revenue makes every effort to engage with the taxpayer, and where possible, agree a mutually acceptable payment.
Over the last five years, both Cavan and Monaghan saw the largest number of warrants issued in 2012 – 547 were issued in Cavan, with 519 issued in Monaghan.
