€68,560 has been spend on emergency accommodation by local councils this year.
Both councils have spent in the region of €34,000 on providing accommodation to those who have reported as homeless in Cavan and Monaghan since January.
It comes as it’s believed 233 people have reported as homeless in Cavan alone in 2016.
Bed and breakfasts and hotels are the main form of emergency accommodation provided in Cavan and Monaghan.
All placements in such accommodation are made on the basis that the person or household has been assessed as homeless and that all viable options for moving on are explored.
Local TD Niamh Smyth says 126 adults and 107 children sought help from Cavan Council up to December.
She’s calling for more investment in housing in a bid to address the problem of homelessness across the country.
