Andy Boyle has re-joined Dundalk as they look to further European progress and secure the SSE Airtricity League title.
The former Lilywhite centre-back returns to Oriel Park as a free agent following two and a half years at Preston North End, which included loan spells at Doncaster Rovers, Dundee and Ross County.
The 28-year-old was a mainstay of the Dundalk side from 2013 to 2016 and was named in the PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year for each of those four seasons.
Doyle already has three consecutive league titles, an FAI Cup and an EA Sports Cup with Dundalk having also received one senior international cap.
“I’m delighted to get the deal done,” said Boyle. “The changes to the place since I left are amazing. The facilities for the players here now, I think it shows the club is only going one way and I just want to be a part of it.”
Boyle teams up once more with Dundalk head coach Vinny Perth – his former first team coach – and a host of ex-teammates at Oriel Park, where he will be looking to add to his collection of silverware.
The head coach was delighted to have such a highly rated player back amongst his squad and is confident the centre back will fit straight back in.
“We’re really pleased to have Andy back,” said Perth. “The difficulty when you sign players is that it takes them a while to understand how we do things and understand our ethos.”
“But Andy knows what we’re about. He’s part of our culture, he’s part of what we’ve achieved over the last six seasons, so it’s a perfect fit for us.”
Boyle’s return to Oriel Park is a further boost for a squad currently on top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division and facing a busy second half of the season with the club fighting on four fronts, including a UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign that begins on 10 July.
Boyle will be available for the Lilywhites from just first.
