A protest against the introduction of 5G networks is taking place in
Monaghan this afternoon.
A number of such campaign groups have sprung up across the country in recent
months, citing concerns about the health risks they say the network poses.
5G is the next-generation of high-speed mobile internet connectivity.
Vodafone has begun rolling out the network across Ireland, with other
providers expected to do so later this year.
Anti-5G groups claim the technology is untested and poses risks to human
health but the World Health Organisation says “no adverse effects have been
established” around the use of mobile phones.
There are also hopes it could improve communications in the Northern Sound
region, with frequent complaints about the lack of phone and internet
The protest will take place in the Diamond in Monaghan town from 12 noon.
